Page two: 2Loose Willy's '62 Chop Gettin a Rebuild .....................

Gonna keep all the parts from the original bike and move them to the "new" frame......

Here's my old bike, first put together like this over 40 years ago, pulling parts off a little at a time as I fit them to the new frame....

Here's my old narrowed 18 over wide glide, the 21" and 16" wheels, and the rear fender and sissy bar on the "new" frame, the fender is just propped up to get a good look at it, still need to fab some mounting brackets....

Interesting thing is that the old extended springer I have and my old glide both have exactly the same length from the bottom of the frame neck to the axle! I can run either one on this setup!

Proceeding for now with the glide setup, it's what I ran for years on my old bike and I am comfortable with it, but when I finally locate a triple clamp for the top of the springer (it's among the missing right now....) then I can fit that into the project also....

I'm also very comfortable with these narrow drag style bars set like this. I'm going to try to mount a set of bars just like this on the springer also.

So, up on the table, strapped down, and ready to proceed....

Trying to get the fender to fit the way I want, and allow for full adjustment of the rear wheel (chain adjustment), I needed to insert a bracket at the seat level for the fender. It's 1' by 1/4" angle, so will tap it for 3/8" cap screws from inside the fender. Locktight will make sure it doesn't come loose!

The bottom of the sissy bar needed either to be bent forward a little to catch the frame axle plate, or I needed to add a bracket to the rear of the frame, decided to add a bracket....

Beer carton cardboard make great template material....

The frame axle plates are 3/8" thick, had some scrap 3/8" pieces around, the chop saw was used to roughed them out, then a little time on the grinder and they were ready to weld to the frame....

Looks good to me....

Ground a good deep "V" on each side at the weld joint and mig'd em in place....

Some time with the grinder and the sanding disc and it's ready for paint....

I won't drill it until the other rear fender brackets at the front of the fender are welded in place, these holes will be the last ones I do to make sure the fender/sissy bar is straight and centered!

More later......
